Three years ago, I finished college and was looking for jobs like any other students who just graduated. Back then I was clueless (I still am
) how reality would hit me once I get into something we call “life.”
I still remember when I first met my boss. He was straight up honest with me how things are going to work and how it’s going to affect me. The job was not going to be pretty, I always had to be on standby for whatever happens, and always be up to date before others do, etc. Honestly speaking, he didn’t really tell me anything positive about the job, but I just hoped that there were some that I didn’t know. Besides the fact that I didn’t have other places to go, the reason why I wanted to try to get involved in IT was simply because I liked computers.
Everything was true about what my boss told me about the job. I had to wake up at ungodly hour when everyone is sleeping (I still do), always stay close to my phone in case something happens, research and be prepared for any inquiries people might ask about anything related to IT. Surprisingly, these things were the simplest things that I had to do in IT. Additionally, there were many dirtier and nastier things that you had to go through when you are the IT guy at a company.
The most valuable knowledge I acquired during work was how actual real life companies operates. Everyone knows that computers, IT, are required to run the company. Because of the fact that there are IT involvement in everything actions that a company performs, I saw how everything got put to gather to make a company. Before companies become successful, there are always well structured IT behind every company. Working in these environment was a huge advantage for me since I did not know crap about how things worked in a company.
It has been three years since I started working. I am still learning and always thankful that I got the opportunity to experience something that I would not be able to experience elsewhere.
p.s. sorry about any typo or grammar mistakes, i am sleepy LOL
